While I'm happy the taboo on discussing Israeli actions is broken, and furthermore that the current Israeli government is beyond the pale, this video is deceptive, and perhaps even dangerous. The way the events of the past 100 years or so are framed here is selective; it makes Israeli overreach and US support seem not merely potentially unwise or occasionally unethical, but consistently problematic and irrational. But this isn't an accurate framing; for all their actions are deplorable now, they're not crazy. I think we should not paper over the uncomfortable truth that Israel _is_ in a deeply hostile region, surrounded by peoples that weren't open to their existence from day one, and over the years have become deeply hated opponents, for reasons that are only partially Isreal's fault (not that that even really matters!). If we naively lie to ourselves and claim that Israel is not under threat, we may well contribute to an outcome that is much much bloodier than even today's tragedy. Futhermore; it's not just US and Israel that have agency in this matter. That's important, because other actors aren't idiots, they're intentionally aggravating the situation in a way that makes it hard to deescalate with the intent to manipulate international and particularly US audiences. I feel that we're deluding ourselves if we believe the alternative to the status quo is magically peace. There is no reason I can see to believe that, and recoiling in horror may not make it stop. Things very much can get worse; and they're certainly unlikely to get better if we delude ourselves as to the complexity of history as it informs those actually living there. Of course, if the argument is that the US should dump its Israeli allies as it did for instance the Afghanis more recently out of sheer disinterest, well, that's hardly any more moral, and just as in Afghanistan, that seems shortsighted.

Hi Leeja, I once caught an episode of Judge Judy where the plaintiff loaned her car to her friend whom had parked the car and was later locked out of the car due to a faulty door lock mechanism that the plaintiff was well aware of. Afterward, the friend told the plaintiff that she could not access the car to move it so plaintiff gave instructions to the friend on how to break into the car. The friend (a black woman) understandably refused to break into the car. Judge Judy to my shock sided with the plaintiff and ordered the friend to pay the plaintiff all of the charges. I thought that was wrong however now that your video explains arbitration, I now realise that Judge Judy could do what she wants!
